The River Campus is a unique research facility expected to be complete in 2019. When poised with three architectural options, two of which compromised existing campus space, our team worked with the owners and architects to bring to life the third option now known as the River Campus – built above the active FDR Drive. This innovative project is adding two acres and several buildings to RU by utilizing air rights to construct a new building.

Cumming provided project and cost management services for this 187,500-sq.-ft. new School of Law and the renovation of the existing Taylor House. Construction included teaching spaces, a library, a café, mock courtroom, and meeting and office spaces.  Critical to the project and significant to the overall program is the School of Law library. The library spreads over three levels and features high-end finishes, detailed millwork, high ceilings, open spaces, and 32,000 linear feet of compact metal storage shelving. The library includes a large reading room and a common area enclosed with storefront glazing that looks out into a courtyard.

The Barbara Walters Campus Center is located in the center of Sarah Lawrence College’s campus in Bronxville, NY, and is the institution’s first major capital project in almost a decade. Primary program elements include multi-purpose spaces, dining, student meeting areas, and an archive and gallery dedicated to Barbara Walters, who is an alumna of the school. The goal of the campus center is to be a magnet for intellectual, cultural, and social life for the campus community, providing a gathering place for students’ formal and informal socializing, conversation, and collaborative work.

Lehrer Cumming was one of the first consultants engaged on this assignment and provided full-time project management services. We were the primary liaison with Sarah Lawrence administration and operations, the design and construction team, and subconsultants. We provided services from design through construction closeout and final turnover to campus operations facilities, playing an integral role in implementing a multi-faceted program with amenity spaces that are flexible and complement one another.
